The Waco Chess Club has set up a way for you to
purchase memberships to the Texas Chess Association.
The Texas Chess
Association, Inc. is
a nonprofit corporation (under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code) whose purpose
is educational and instructional in promoting interest in chess in the state of
Texas
.
TCA members receive Texas
Knights magazine, which is widely considered one of the best
chess state magazines in the nation. In 1998 Texas Knights won the
Fred Cramer award from the USCF committee for the best state chess magazine. We
publish bimonthly, or six times a year, and have not missed an issue since 1988.
Texas Knights is edited by Selby Anderson, a 2300 rated USCF Life Master.
A Small History of The Texas Chess Association:
The TCA was founded in 1935 by John Charles
Thompson of Dallas. That was also the year of the first annual Southwest Open.
"J.C." went on to win first place seven times, and second place
another seven before his work took him abroad in 1952. The Texas State
Championship series began after World War II, and Thompson won three consecutive
titles in 1947-49. Master Emeritus and TCA founder John Charles Thompson died
July 5, 1999 - obituary.
Two other players would have a similar hegemony over Texas title events:
Thompson's star pupil Ken Smith (9 Southwest Open, 10 Texas Championships), and
one of Smith's pupils, Joe Bradford (10 Southwest Open, 11 Texas Championships).

If you would like to join the TCA, please chose the membership that you are interested in. After your payment
information has been accepted, you will be sent to a form that you will input
your contact information. We are only able to offer individual
memberships. If you are interested in Life memberships, visit www.texaschess.org.
